AUBC marches towards Premiership

{gallery}Latest_News/Regatta:::1{/gallery}At the first regatta of 2012, AUBC dominated racing at West Lakes, winning 14 of the 28 club events on offer. This included claiming 10 of the possible 14 men's races, and 4 of the 14 women's races.

In the opening race, the 1st grade mens single, Kai Ward led from the front, with a hard fought victory over AUBC-SASI sculler Lachie Ward, hardman Alister Walsh and Murray Bridge's Dylan Porte.

Hugo Burgin & Pat Ey followed this with a row over in the mens pair.

In the 1st grade womens single, Alex Daniel came 2nd after being unable to catch Rhiannon Hughes, whose choice to row for ARC has divided the Hughes family.

The womens pair was also a row over, but something amazing happened, and a DNF was recorded for the crew of G Mills & Jo Malcolm.

Jed Nicolle took a close win in Div 2 of the 3rd grade mens single over pack of schoolboys, who were able to claim Divs 1 & 3.

Alex Carter & Elise Donovan showed great promise in their division of the 3rd grade womens single, placing 3rd & 6th respectively, and we look forward to seeing them climbing the ranks in future regattas.

The race of the day was the 3rd grade womens coxed quad, where Elaine Warnecke, Caroline Auricht, Alex Carter & Elise Donovan, coxed by journeywoman G Hanus, were gaining on a valiant Torrens crew, who managed to hold them off by just over a second.

In the 3rd grade mens quad, Shaun Hay, Hamish Beer, Jed Nicolle, Richard Parletta & cox Min Eaton turned the tables to win by clear water.

Easy wins followed in the womens four (Caroline Auricht, Alex Daniel, G Mills, Jo Malcolm), mens four (Michael Shannon, Patrick Maddern, Alister Walsh, Ned Kinnear), mens double (Richard Parletta & Freddy Smyth), womens double (Alex Daniel, G Mills) and under 19 mens single (Shaun Hay).

Narelle Badenoch was foxing and chose not to enter the under 17 or under 19 womens single, leaving Torrens to fill the podiums.

In the 3rd grade mens double, Jimmy Lim & Hamish Beer put in a solid performance to finish with the front of the field & in 3rd position. With no AUBC entry in the womens event, Murray Bridge and Mannum took wins.

In the 3rd grade mens coxed four, Cam Beasley, Jed Nicolle, Richard Parletta & Freddy Smith, coxed by Zandra McGee, romped it in over the schoolkids, and again with no AUBC entry in the womens event, Torrens took line honours.

And then for the quads & eights. AUBC were the only entrants in both mens events, as was the women's eight, but it was in the final event of the day, the women's quad, that our members had a chance to shine. Entered against a Torrens crew with mix of youth & experience, the AUBC crew of Jo Malcolm, G Mills, Alex Daniel and Caroline Auricht led from the start & never looked back, to score an emphatic win & great end to the regatta.
